To Lead Is To Serve

The call to lead is the call to conversion through the exercise of service. As Christians, we are all called by the Lord Jesus to follow him as disciples and to share the Good News of salvation with others. In our ministry here at Drexel Newman, we look to reach out to students and help them encounter the Lord in their own life, help them to grow in their relationship with God and help them to discover the call to serve others as missionary disciples. There are many ways to serve both within our community as well as outside the Newman Center and Parish.

One of the ways available is to serve on our Drexel Newman Service Team, whose description is found below.

If you are interested in applying to serve the community through a leadership commitment, please click the link at the bottom of the page.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

  1. Read the general leadership descriptions below, this Google Doc that lists the available positions and each one’s role, and the Drexel Newman Constitution, which has greater detail on position responsibilities and the election and selection process.

  2. Take a moment to pray. Might God be asking you to serve others through this community?

  3. If you are still unsure, talk with former leaders or staff members about their experience. You can email Thibault: tvincent@saintsaj.org.

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT?

The Drexel Newman Service Team is meant to be a body of leaders who desire to work together to serve God by building up the Newman Community. Individuals should apply for this team who feel a strong desire to grow in their faith, collaborate with others, and share their time and talents in service of the Church. We hope to have a Service Team that sets an example of virtuous living, generous service, and fraternal charity. Even though imperfection in these areas is inevitable, it is expected that those on the Service Team will be continually striving to grow in their Christian life throughout their term of service.

As a member of the Service Team of Drexel Newman, you are expected to: - Commit to an intentional year of growing in your faith, in order to foster your growth both as a leader and as a follower of Christ. The most important thing you can do is get closer to Jesus!

- Strive to uphold a life of integrity in every area of your life as a representative of Drexel Newman and the Catholic Church.
- Attend a weekly holy hour
- Attend weekly or bi-weekly team meetings (as your position entails), as well as Quarterly Team Getaways. *Dates and times for these meetings are set based on people’s schedules.*
- Schedule a monthly one-on-one with with Campus Minister or FOCUS missionary representative to check in both spiritually and practically.
- Attend Leadership Retreat with the other ministries at St. AJ’s (Date TBD)
- Make an effort to attend as many Drexel Newman events as you prudently can, and strive to be a servant leader among the community at large.
- Fulfill the duties and expectations for your specific role.

THE MAIN DUTIES OF EACH OF THE PARTICULAR POSITIONS CAN BE FOUND HERE.

All applicants to be elected (President, Treasurer, and Events Coordinator) are asked to attend our special election (Date TBD) where they will have the opportunity to address the whole Newman community and explain why they are qualified for their selected position(s).
